What have you Prepared for?...

In John chapter 6:1-14 (NKJV) we find the miracle of Jesus feeding the five-thousand. This is an amazing incident that left everyone in amazement, and it was recorded that the men “when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “this is truly the Prophet who is to come into the World” (14).

My questions to you is what are you prepared for? What are you preparing your children for?

John 6:9 says, “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” (9)

Jesus notices the great multitude coming toward Him, and He asks Philip “where shall we buy bread, that we can eat?” (5) You see this was a loaded question, Jesus already had a plan of action. (6) Philip didn’t have an answer that was a promising plan. He said to Jesus that “two hundred denarii worth is not sufficient for them” (7). Basically, looking at all the people coming and starting to bit his nails and wipe the sweat from his forehead… Sometimes life can bring challenges that may seem like major obstacles for us.

But what are you prepared for?

Andrew observes a young boy with a basket carrying his lunch, he had “five barley loaves and two small fish” (9) but Andrew just like Philip said “what are they among so many” (9).

Remember… Jesus had a plan, he instructed them saying, “make the people sit down” (10).

As you continue to read this amazing miracle where Jesus feeds them there is so much hidden within this amazing story. Jesus distributed the loaves and then the fish “as much as they wanted” (11). Remember Philip stated that two hundred denarii worth wouldn’t be sufficient and that “every one of them may have a little” (7). But Jesus took the five loaves and two small fish and fed them “as much as they wanted” until they were all filled. We know that there were five-thousand men, however from reading you should have picked up there were also children present as the meal came from a small boy’s lunch. This also gives us an understanding that woman were most likely also present.

The most amazing factor in the story in considering the question “what are you prepared for?” and “What are you preparing your children for?” was that Jesus performed this miracle from a small boy’s lunch.

His mother prepared not only his lunch, but she prepared the miracle…

Are you preparing your children for the miracle? Are you preparing for the miracle?

What are you packing for your children?

When truly need to be “training up” our children. Need to be packing there “lunch boxes” with things that will benefit them, and put them in the midst of the miracle.

After Jesus fed everyone, and they were all filled, there were “twelve baskets” left over. They started with one basket, ate and then ended up with twelve baskets (13). Not only was the meal the miracle and multiplied, but also the baskets were multiplied.

Consider this next time you pack a lunch for yourself or your child, what are you preparing for?...

We need to instill in our family’s Christian values, the Gospel, and the miracles of Jesus.
