Shut up....and Listen!
May 25, 2016, 12:00 AM

Most of us as a kid or probably some as an adult.... have all heard HUSH! and Listen.... This is much more than momma, or your wife trying to get a point across, this is a life lesson straight from God's word... Often times we allow our mouth to overload our tail... It's easy to stick your foot in your mouth, it is also easy to say something that can never be taken back. Many times we don't realize it but our words can cut someone very deep, and can bring more pain than we can see on someones life. The Bible states that there is both life and death found in the tongue (Proverbs 18). A simple choice can alter someones life for a long time. These are just not verbal words, think about the ways that you text, the things that you say about people when they are not around, the things that you post on social media. Things get back to people and it is just as damaging as if you were standing right there in front of them. Most of the time it is the easiest to say things such as this when we are angry. As a young adult, I have been guilty of not fighting fair when in a argument with my wife, we both discovered that this was the way to get on top of the argument, but it is honestly not the right thing to do, no matter who you are having a disagreement with.

We will all have disagreements, but we have to learn to stay focused on the problem, and not stray into another field. When you are arguing try not to dig up graves of things that you are trying to bury. We all (yes..including me) have to learn to be quick to listen, and slow to speak... and slow to become angry... To many times, boy do we all let out feathers get ruffled and carry these feelings around to the point that we explode. We have to work to get in a habit of prayer, and meditation before addressing a problem, a disagreement, or even a major situation. Praying first will give you time to seek God and some advice, direction, and peace before speaking to the other person. And meditating will help you to sit, relax, and think it over. To get your self together so to speak.

I have experienced some trying situations and it has been more than a challenge to push through at times, life is not always fun... But, good things are in the works. God always has a plan and wants the best for us... we just have to learn to seek Him, and to become Humble. We as humans don't like to be humble, we want to be in charge, to be fighters, and directors but we need to humble ourselves to God, to seek Him and draw near to Him, and let our strength come from Him.

James 1:19 (NIV)

19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

James 4:10-11 (NIV)

10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
