Remember Me

"Remember Me"

In the Disney movie “Coco” one of the key songs is “Remember Me”.

Here are some lyrics from the song:
Remember me
Though I have to say goodbye
Remember me
Don't let it make you cry
For ever if I'm far away
I hold you in my heart

I think of the words of this song, and the impact that Jesus has on our lives. I think about those who sat of the foot of the cross, hearing Jesus’ final words and then looking up at His lifeless body. I also think of the two men who hung on crosses one on each side of Jesus on crucifixion day.

Two criminals, both on crosses hanging with Jesus nailed to a cross. Both men were presented with the same opportunity, however it is what they did with it that made the difference. In this situation one mans life was changed forever.

Luke gives us the account of this story in Luke 23 (NKJV).

One of the two criminals looks at Jesus, “blasphemed Him, saying “if you are the Christ, save yourself and us” (Luke 23:39 NKJV).

The other criminal however has a different opinion…

He only knows two facts as he hangs on that cross beside Jesus…
 - 1. That he deserved to be on that cross, that it was his sins, his actions that got him into that
        situation.

-  2. That Jesus didn’t deserve to be on that cross.

What is amazing about this criminal unlike the other who chose to blaspheme Jesus, was that knowing just these two simple facts, his words to Jesus were simply stated “Remember Me”.

You see, this criminal who deserved his punishment, took up for Jesus even while on the cross rebuking the other criminal who chose to blaspheme Jesus and saying to him, “do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong” (Luke 40-41 NKJV).

And then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom”
(Luke 23:42 NKJV).

We have a choice to make a decision that has to be made.

You see Jesus never deserved the punishment and the death of the cross, but faced the cross for each of us, and to carry the sins of the world. It was because, “God so LOVED the WORLD” that He gave us His Son Jesus.
