THE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE
The Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene is part of the international Protestant denomination known as the Church of the Nazarene. We are called Church of the Nazarene because Jesus was from a town in Israel called Nazareth, thus making him a “Nazarene.” Because we are Christians, we are the Church of the Nazarene.
Matthew 1:23 (KJV) says, “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” We get our church’s name from Christ, who is called, Emmanuel, God with us. As a part of the larger family of Nazarene churches worldwide, we have agreed to the following statement of beliefs:
Church of the Nazarene Agreed Statement of Belief
These are the beliefs Nazarenes believe to be true:
· We believe in one God: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (The Trinity)
· We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, The Holy Bible, given by complete inspiration, contain all truth necessary for faith and Christian living.
· We believe that people are all born with a fallen nature, and are, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually. That is, people are born with a tendency to continually rebel against God.
· We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.
· We believe that Christ’s work to reunite us with God is for everyone, and that whoever turns away from their life of sin and puts their faith in Jesus Christ will be made right with God, be spiritually begin a new life with God and be saved from the dominion and ultimate consequences of sin.
· We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, set apart for God by God, after being renewed spiritually, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
· We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.
· We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
